I’m currently in a hotel room in London getting ready for the last stop on the first leg of the on AIR Tour Europe. Yesterday in Brussels I built a cool little AIR application that allows you to download YouTube FLV videos by simply dragging or pasting in the video’s URL. After the video downloads the application will expand and show you a preview of the video. The file is saved to the desktop as video.flv. Follow the steps below once you get it installed:
A couple of things to note here. First, their is some basic error checking but it isn’t very robust. Secondly, the full source will be posted as soon as I get home. Lee PS – For those who can’t get the badge install to work, here is the AIR installer. |

Man i´ve just created a Youtube app for my talk at the AIRTour in Berlin
Funny enough i also called mine AIRTube 
BTW I created a similar thing last year with the beta but got a mail from Youtube that i`m not allowed to release it (http://www.richapps.de/?p=55). Do you know anything about this – is this legal to their Terms Of Use?

I attended the onAIR tour Amsterdam and liked your presentation and examples a lot. Is there any chance of seeing the ‘fartmachine’ air app source on your site ? I really liked the way it attaches to your screen and see a lot of potential in that technique for some of our business apps….

Great to talk to you at the end of the London conference, is anyone else having problems with this app on Windows? Thanks to you and the others for the copy of Flex! You said the CS3 master collection would work on up to 4 computers, but I think you can only install on 1 with the educational licence. There goes the rest of my money to Adobe! Oh well, it’s worth it for the great software.

Hi – Just to say I had a great time yesterday at the Air Tour in London. Had to rush for the train so no chance to say thanks for the great websites you run. Busy now rehearsing the case for upgrade to CS3 / buying Flex for when my business partner gets back from her holiday (I do tech, she does management and hates ‘puters!).

Hey I am using the new Real Player 11 Beta & it does it better because instead of doing all of that stuff with this Air thing. All you have to do in real player is just hover over any flash video and press on download. Thats it and then it goes inside the my video’s folder inside of the real player download folder &do not get me wrong in the past I was not a real player fan, but since the new version I am sorry just try it, install it & then try it on any video format from flash to everything else & you will love it atleast I do because I can download anything as far as video or any kind of flash. Enjoy!
Oh & I forgot to say that realplayer 11 beta works right inside of firefox or Internet Explorer. The Real player download button just appears on top of every video for seconds & then cuts off. You can set the time limit that it stays on top. You can even set the download button to just come up only when you hover over a video & then press the (CTRL) Button.Enjoy People!

Good, one REALLY USEFUL feature would be able to make use of AIR’s drag and drop and be able to drag an FLV from the desktop and drop it into your AIRTube for viewing.

It’s not working because since October 2008 YouTube has changed the flash variables in the object tag. I believe Lee has to change/update the html parser method he’s using to retrieve the flv url. I personally use flex JSON library for retrieving the right url and it works fine for me.
