Flasher Magazine Issue 1 is now live!

I have finally finished editing the first issue of Flasher Magazine! I made a microsite for it but this will also be available on Adobe TV soon. The site is still in progress and there will eventually be RSS and iTunes feeds as well as a custom web player. Issue 1 features interviews with Chuck Freedman from Ribbit and Ryan Stewart joins me to talk about Flash Catalyst. We also go on a road trip through the southwest to a couple of different Flash events. Finally I answer some of the most frequently asked questions regarding how I record my tutorials at gotoAndLearn. Go on over and watch this issue and let me know what you think. If you would prefer to download the file for offline viewing you can download the MP4.

Hope you enjoy it!
Lee

  1. Thanks Lee. Awesome first issue, but not just because Las Vegas was in there ;) Really appreciate the How To on your screencasts.

Just a note for other Mac screencasters: There is also ScreenFlow (http://www.telestream.net/screen-flow/overview.htm). Its $99 and offers some of the video editing that Camtasia offers on Windows. It’s only a little bit more than Snapz Pro but offers a ton more features.

  2. Great Job! I know that Vol 1 was a lot of work, but it’s worth it. Don’t let corporate sanitize it either. I’ll be waiting for the next issue.

  3. great magazine.
    laughed a lot.
seems to be a lot more your personal style than gotoandlearn.
    i’m looking for more. =8-))

    thanks lee

  4. Great first issue.

Do you have a link to the “Podcasting Starter Kit” mentioned inside for recording audio? How much is it?

    Thanks.

  5. Lee,
Freaking awesome. Love the intro on the Silverlight book placement. Nice job on the jabs to Ryan. Also the video tutorial how-to is great as in the past I’ve pinged you with questions on this topic. Glad to see it in a consuable form.

    Rock!

  6. Great video! I’m impressed. Can’t wait for the next issue!

P.S. At the end, Andre Charland (finishing his beer in a beaker) tried to say in Polish: “Piwo! Na zdrowie!”, which means exactly “Beer! Cheers!”. I’m wondering why he used Polish language 3:>

P.P.S. Lee, I was expecting some worse words when Your phone rang. Good for You :) No need to make a “beep” sound :D

  7. Great idea Lee. Saw you speak in LA – wish they gave you a bigger time slot. Did not get to speak to you in person because of all the groupies. keep up the good work.

  8. Hi Lee, Great vid – good luck with the whole concept, I’ll definitely be tuning in.

Just a tip from an audio geek like me, don’t take a headphone output from your mixer back into your computer. headphone outs are pre-amplified and that extra processing shouldn’t be added to your audio at that stage. Take a line out or a send which isn’t pre-amp’d or coloured in any way and the final result will be improved.

Listen to me advising Lee brimelow!

  9. Lee, honored to be a part of the debut magazine.

The production and creative value of this is INCREDIBLE. Here’s to many future Flasher Mags!!!!

You should be very satisfied with this effort as well as the reach, impression and inspiration it will make to the Flash community!

  10. Hi Lee!
The fisheye view is realy good, make sence in this kind of live situation (whith this deep focus) … How did you make that??
What kind of equipment do you use, i mean camcorder/ojectiv etc.?

    greetz and
    keep swinging

  11. Awesome Lee!

One tiny little thing, maybe use a bit less of the fish-eye effect, but that’s probably just me being picky.

I was shocked at how well done it was though, great work.

  12. Why don’t you put a link to the downloadon the site for devices that don’t support flash such as the t-mobile g1 phone. I just get a flash player button.

  13. Hi Lee,

Great idea! Thanks for sharing those how-to tips. BTW, what kind of video camera are you using?

P.S. Dude, you need a search field on this blog. With some much awesome info, it’s hard to find stuff. ;-)

  14. Hi Lee,

Follower of your blog and tutorials and the 1st edition of Flasher Mag was very insightful.

Is there anywhere I can see a demo of that PixelBender transition demoed at Venice from the 3D Carousel like Flickr Photo Viewer you showed off. Can’t make out as much from the video but from hearing all the oohs and aahhs it has really peaked my curiosity.

  15. Hi Lee,

    Great vid!

Like Evan said can you please post some link for the the pixel bender transition. It seemed really nice
