Source FLA for Event Generator Extension

There were many good suggestions for improvements to the Event Generator extension so I have uploaded the source FLA so that you can tweak it to suit your own needs. You can also check it out if you want to see what it takes to make a custom panel for Flash. Basically you have to call the MMExecute function and pass it a string of JSFL. Look in the Flash help files under Extending Flash for more information on what’s possible.

Once you have modified the FLA and produce a SWF file you will need to put it in a certain directory in order for Flash to see it. On the Mac it will be something like /Users/[your name]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS3/en/Configuration/WindowSWF. For Windows it will be something like C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash CS3\en\Configuration\WindowSWF. Just poke around and you will find it. Just be sure to put the SWF in the WindowSWF folder and restart Flash to see the changes.

Have fun with it!

  1. Cool Man, i am working on a Panel for my company with stuff that we find us self doing all the time.

Soo… A panel for Kuler? in Flash? with the to tutorials you just did?
så deisgners can add colors ind flash.

  2. can’t find the folder on vista? i can’t see to find the old one to overwrite it will my code after i altered it… help…

searched everywhere did a search included hidden locations…

  3. I actually found, weird location. However when I unzip your exact FLA, open it change the work click to Carey publish and overwrite the exsiting swf file. The copy to clipboard no longer works. Any ideas? Vista problem?

  4. hi lee

thank you very much for this wonderful extension and providing the sourceFla.
its exactly what i need for my upcoming flashCS3 beginner class: let people automatically generate actionscript 3 code using an assistant. similar to the “Script Assist” mode (actions window) in Flash8/AS2.

just need to modify the panel, for example to use it for button symbols.

  5. C:\Documents and Settings\Anthony\Local Settings\Application Data\Adobe\Flash CS3\en\Configuration\WindowSWF

Make sure you are looking in LOCAL SETTINGS.

On that note, the extension works for me but the raw fla does not.

  6. Lee, when I downloaded the .fla I found the same as Carey above, the copy to clipboard doesn’t work. Have trawled through some JSFL docs and figured that there seems to be a line missing –

should be just before the closing brace of the “apClick” function. Thanks for a great extension, will be using it loads!

  7. Thanks of the tutorial.
Custom Panel sounds great, but I am not able to locate the following folder— “C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash CS3\en\Configuration\WindowSWF.” — in my computer which runs on Window XP OS. (rather i am not able to locate the folder called WindowSWF anywhere in my C: drive”
    –please help

  8. I’m also having trouble with the source FLA working right.

It seems to not be refreashing the clipboard.

Of course it works fine when I install it from the mxp file.

  9. Yeah. I just did an extensive test, installing the panel from the mxp and then Publishing a swf to the WindowSWF file from the source FLA and once I use the FLA version, it’s not refreashing the clipboard.

I wonder what could be wrong.

  10. I found an error with the source file…at least I think I found why it wasn’t working for me.

there was an important piece of code missing from the script towards the end.

I put this in just before the second to last curley bracket and tried it again and it worked fine!

  11. Hello Lee, nice work at first..

But i cant find the WindowsSWF folder as you discribed…

    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash CS3\en\Configuration\WindowSWF.

    Plz some help!
